Alternative Process Group Photography Exhibition
Spectrum Art Gallery presents an Alternative Process Photography Exhibition featuring artists Niclaus Cook, Elizabeth Garcia, Christian Ortuno, Edward Gillum, Donna Hopson, Jesse Merrell, and Travis Rockett. Works featured are historic processes alongside some innovative experimental and alternative media. Most of these works are singular, one-off prints. Some take hours to prepare with no guarantee of results. This exhibition showcases photography in various ways; some old processes, and some new.
Niclaus Cook
is currently a student at CSU Fresno. His selection of images is from his collection titled “Ocean,” a series of cyanotypes that bring awareness of our impact on our environment. “Ocean” represents how Niclaus sees the conversation on how we interact with our blue planet. His hope is to prompt new ideas on how we can restore a balance between us and the ocean. |

Christian Ortuno
is a Fine Art Photographer who works and lives in Fresno, California. He uses the camera to document the complexity of humanity. Ortuno captures the spectrum of human emotions, from the simple moments to the trying times. On exhibition is “Shasta,” his collection of cyanotypes portraying a personal exploration of his childhood home and his grandfather’s land. |

Edward Gillum
describes his creative endeavors as content driven and the materials and processes employed serve the ideas. In his current work for this exhibit, he has chosen to push the idea of “FOTO-FRIT-FUSION” as the basic idea. He loves working with glass for several reasons: “one - that it is the most recyclable of all the materials I have encountered; two - that it gathers and transmits light; and three - that it responds to controlled heat and can be formed and manipulated.” |

Donna Hopson
decided to print her photos onto fabric after taking a photography class. She began sewing on the photos, then embellishing them with all manner of ribbon, sequins, beads, lace and whatever else caught her eye. She always done some type of hand work, knitting, sewing and quilting. These pieces combine many of her interests into one mixed media piece, an Alternative Process. |

Jesse Merrell
is a fine art photographer who currently serves as Curator at Spectrum Art Gallery. His craft in alternative process photography ebbs and flows between classical and experimental. In this exhibition, Jesse is showcasing several Van Dyke Brown prints of waterfalls from small communities in Transylvania County through to the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation in NC. |

Travis Rockett
is an award-winning local photographer. He is currently working on a series of Lumen prints that unites his love for photography and his passion for fashion. Travis is drawn to the unpredictable nature of lumen printing, which can lead to amazingly delicate and otherworldly images. |
